Job Description

Waste Connections of Canada the leader in non-hazardous solid waste management in North America is looking for a General Labourer at our Navan Waste Recycling and Disposal Facility located at 3354 Navan Rd., Ottawa, Ontario. We are looking for an innovative, proactive and hard working individual capable of creating and driving change.

Position Summary:

At Waste Connections of Canada we focus on Safety all day every day for our employees and our community. The General Labour ensures safe operation of our active disposal area directing traffic while communicating with drivers and equipment operators as well as supervising our small vehicle unloading area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to effectively communicate with drivers and heavy equipment operators.

  • Performs routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections including maintenance on small vehicles such as checking oil, water, and tires.

  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • A typical schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, with an occasional Saturday as needed, 45 hour work week.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 2 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • Basic knowledge of computer skills.

  • Must enjoy working outdoors.

  • Must possess excellent communications skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.

  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

  • Ability to operate small off-road equipment. Ability to operate other heavy equipment an asset but not required.

  • Knowledge of light equipment operation and maintenance.

  • Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels.

  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
