Job Description

aste Connections of Canada the leader in non-hazardous solid waste management in North America. Due to growth and expansion we are currently adding a motivated Diesel Mechanic for our shop in Peterborough Ontario.


Monday to Friday afternoons: 2:00pm - 11:30p.m.

$27.09/hr if fully licensed.

$20.00/hr if within apprenticeship

Our technicians maintain, repair, and overhaul heavy vehicles and industrial equipment.

Maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment may include:

  • Performs repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services.

  • Performs inspections, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.

  • Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.

  • Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns.

  • Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.

  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.

  • Reviews, completes or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.

  • Performs maintenance related work as required.

  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and safety standards.

  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

  • Ability to effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks.

To be successful in the trade, the Apprentice Mechanic must have:

  • Must have own tools (Basic Set)

  • Good understanding of the concepts of health and safety as a workplace practice and as an overall wellness and lifestyle decision

  • Fluid and concise writing, reading and speaking communication skills in English.

  • Good vision, hearing and sense of smell to diagnose problems

  • The strength and stamina required to work with heavy equipment and work in cramped or awkward positions

  • The ability to work alone or as part of a team

  • Mechanical ability and an interest in all types of machinery and engines, electronics and precision equipment

  • The ability to think logically and keep up with changes in technology

  • Ability to execute work within standard repair times

  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and inspection criteria
